Who is Maji Khan?
Maji Khan is an Indian painter and artist from Siniyado (Banni). village in Gujarat.
It was in April 2013 when a significant turning point came when the well-known artist Mahmood Ji introduced Manjikan to the traditional 450-year-old Kutch art known as Lippan Art.
With a mere 45 minutes of training, Manjikan was motivated to take up practicing the art form, and he started off with broken frames and scrap materials, as there were no resources.
Due to the recognition of collective growth, Manjikian engaged his community from the village in art activities and helped in promoting and preserving the dying bride room mural form called lippan. He trained small children also.
This initiative not only brought back a 450-year-old tradition but also generated an alternative source of income for many in the locality.
Maji Khan’s Business Career:
Manjikan started his art business with only ₹485, buying raw materials to make frames and nameplates in Lippan Art.
He was rejected and struggled to get people to buy his products locally, but he just kept going, and after days of trying, he got his first orders and sold those initial batches—slowly, albeit inconsistently, giving him confidence and motivation.
Maji Khan Social Media Started:
- Manjikan set up a Facebook page in 2014 and began to post pictures and videos of his art there to gain attention beyond the village.

- His videos began to take off, the first going viral with around 3,000 views from a village so remote it had poor internet access.
Success in E-commerce Business:
Manjikan signed up for Amazon’s artisan program, where he was initially rejected due to product concerns but eventually got his account approved after weeks of back-and-forth negotiations.
His products started getting repeat orders, and soon after, Amazon publicized his story and products in a big way (including making him a brand ambassador) by displaying posters in prime metro stations in India.
