Raj Yadav

Raj Yadav Biography 2025:

Raj Yadav is a resident of Chamra, a remote village in Jaunpur district, Uttar Pradesh, which chiefly provided livelihood options such as small units like tea-paan stalls, vegetable shops etc. His father was a mill laborer and also owned a tea-paan stall which he ran to support the family. Raj is the oldest son and has taken over running the shop while he continues his schooling.

The village market was 4-5 km away and the shop was a roadside wooden hut. Every day Raj would clean up the shop, light the coal stove, make tea and go to school. But with no special impetus or push for formal education, Raj kept going to school, at first with no great high-flying dreams.

Raj Yadav Business Startup:

Watching the scanty returns from the tea-paan business, Raj contemplated changing to a samosa stall—he had seen a neighboring vendor getting more customers. He wanted to open a samosa business but was short of money (₹5,500 was what he required, and he had only ₹3,500).

To keep money, Raj started saving from daily collections of the shop by putting it in a matchbox under the grass which is near the hand pump. But alas, the area got cleaned up and he lost his savings.

A friend had agreed to give him a loan of ₹3,000 to start the business but ended up not giving it to him, a turn of fate Raj later regarded as a good fortune and divine conspiracy for something greater.

He did his physics chemistry and mathematics in 12th and applied for engineering but lack of money (fee: ₹177,000), he was unable to join the program. And admission was too expensive for his family to afford, his father at first telling him to forget it and go work in the family business instead.

With his mother’s encouragement and tenacity driving him, Raj passed the entrance exam, but finances were an obstacle. He was able to raise fees from small contributions, from several quarters, and assured his father that he would somehow succeed.

Struggles in Engineering College :

Raj Yadav joined computer engineering without knowing anything about computers. I was depressed… the first day of classes was such a nightmare in college, lectures were in English, which I hardly got nothing, Depression after Depression and scared if I fail or not.

He bunked in a friend’s place to save money and began learning English, through accelerated learning programs and on his own. With time, his verbal communication and academic performance got better and he finished a B.Tech degree.

Who is Raj Yadav:

Raj got a job with a starting salary of ₹33,000, which seemed like a lot of money to him, one day. He led a frugal life in Delhi, occasionally eating cheap meals like samosas to save money.

He worked hard and long—slowly but surely; arriving at the office early in the morning and leaving last at night; and in three months received a raise in salary. In a year, he was earning ₹12 lakh a year, a huge jump from his life in the village.

Although he was making headway finacially, his number one dream was still to give his parents a better life, which included eventually building them a new house, since their old house had been destroyed.

Raj Yadav Job & Experience:

Feeling bolder, thanks to his experience and savings, Raj quit his” secure corporate job” in order to establish his own IT service company. Even though his employers offered to keep him in higher positions, he decided to pursue what was burning inside him and become an entrepreneur.

At first, he began on his own and soon scaled up with the hiring of engineers and a focus on projects in public health and rural education. When covid-19 hit and Raj went to visit his village, he saw abandoned agricultural land, which made him want to use technology to solve farmers’ concerns.

He launched pilot projects in blocks of Uttar Pradesh, securing orders of ₹18 lakh in the first season. The business expanded to a few districts and Raj shifted to Pune city to set up a head office in the agrochemical hub of Maharashtra.

Lifestyle & Family Background:

The company expanded from four employees to close to 250, half of them women, many from rural areas. Raj stressed the need to give rural girls an opportunity in education, in keeping with his own sisters who never got a chance to study due to financial and cultural challenges.

The startup, “Grami,” had incomes of over ₹300 crore in two years and was backed by top investors and a host of strategic partners, including big banks like Axis and SBI. They started out with about 500 peer partners (farmers), with ambitions to reach 20,000 by 2026.
